Tourism helps reduce jobless figure in April
Restaurants, hotels, travel agencies and other tourism-related enterprises helped reduce the number of unemployed registered with the Manpower Organization (OAED) in April by 22,318 from a year earlier, taking the total down to 970,328.
The start of the tourism season as well as various social employment programs that have started gave the Greek labor market a much-needed push last month, but experts stress that this is no more than a seasonal effect without any structural characteristics.
Notably, the number of jobless individuals receiving a benefit fell by 25,341 from March 2017 to 116,985 in April.
