Bill provides for casino permit at Elliniko plot
After months of waiting, the Lamda Development-led consortium that landed the contract for the development of the old Athens airport plot at Elliniko, on the capital’s southern coast, saw the government table a clause in Parliament for the licensing of a casino in the area. The precise terms and the time the new permit will be issued will be determined by the finance minister, as provided for in the clause in the ministry’s multi-bill.
According to the draft law, the concession of the Elliniko casino permit will be conducted via international tender. The license will be issued according to the provisions of the concession contract for the Elliniko development as signed in 2014.
This concludes one more milestone for the second bailout review, with the revised bailout agreement dictating the completion of the Elliniko concession by June 2017.
In the same bill, the ministry also allows for the relocation of the Parnitha casino within the capital, although not inside the boundaries of the City of Athens. The relocation from the mountain will be based on a decision from the Greek gaming regulator (EEEP), to be issued within 18 months of the passing of the bill. The transfer of the Parnitha casino will be conducted in a similar manner to that of an establishment recently in Thrace and another previously in Thessaloniki.
