You can now throw away your 2016 receipts

Taxpayers can get rid of any paper receipts they have collected so far this year, according to statements by Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis on Friday.

Speaking on ANT1 TV in the morning, Alexiadis said that, like last year, the existing legislation does not force taxpayers to collect receipts this year either. However, he did say there is a possibility that they may be required to collect receipts from card transactions toward the tax-free threshold for just a small period within 2016, either from November 1 or from December 1. If that does not happen then, the measure will likely be introduced in January 2017.

He added that the bill in question will be submitted to Parliament after the completion of talks with the country’s creditors and will clarify the association of credit and debt card purchases with the income tax-free threshold. Those purchases may be made either in Greece or abroad and can include online transactions.
