Register planned for mobile phone debtors
After several years of trying, the creation of a bad-customer register for cell phone service providers is finally going ahead.
Similar to the Teiresias register for bad debtors at banks, the Tilegnous register will include cell phone subscribers who shift from network to network leaving debts at their old service providers.
Greek Mobile Operators Association (EEKT) general director Giorgos Stefanopoulos explained on Thursday that the system to be developed by the Tilegnous company will only include a name and surname and a tax registration number per customer with expired debts of more than 300 euros.
However, he does note that being listed on the Tilegnous register will not necessarily mean that a cell phone user will not be able to subscribe to a network. What the system will do is allow their new service provider to better assess the risk that a contract with them would entail. This means it will be very difficult for those on the list to get an expensive contract from a company. Stefanopoulos added that the main target of the new register will be systematic debtors.
Tilegnous has obtained a license from the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) and will be created and co-owned by operators Cosmote, Cyta Hellas, Vodafone and Wind Hellas, which will hold a 25 percent share each in the company.
