Key week for tax payments gets under way
Millions of taxpayers will have to dish out about 1.8 billion euros by the end of this week to cover the second installment of income tax and the first payment of the Single Property Tax (ENFIA) due by September 30.
The government views this month as quite decisive in terms of the budget’s execution, as a total of 4.7 billion euros will have to be collected by the end of the year.
However, it is far from certain that the target set will be attained, as many households and enterprises have exhausted their taxpaying capacity and some may be unable to pay their accumulated dues this month, as was the case in July when many taxpayers failed to pay the first income tax installation.
And if that were not enough, taxpayers are also facing a hike in the special consumption tax on heating oil from mid-October, an increase in road tax in December and a rise in the special consumption tax on gasoline and diesel from January.
