ATHEX: Bank stocks send index lower
Bank stocks shrank 5.88 percent on Thursday leading the Greek bourse to a decline, with the benchmark closing near the day’s low.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 562.84 points, shedding 1.11 percent from Wednesday’s 569.16 points.
The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 2.01 percent to end at 1,501.49 points, though mid-caps advanced 0.81 percent.
In total 42 stocks expanded, 45 dropped and 13 stayed put.
Turnover reached 39.2 million euros, up from Wednesday’s 25.3 million.
The general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange in Nicosia contracted 0.60 percent to close at 65.89 points.
