Trenitalia is interested in Rosco too
The president of the TAIPED privatization fund, Stergios Pitsiorlas, informed unionists of the Greek railways that Italy’s Trenitalia, the winning bidder for service operator Trainose, is also interested in railway carriage maintenance company Rosco.
In the meeting – which took place without the presence of Trainose’s Transport Ministry appointed management – the head of TAIPED added that the privatization of Rosco will be completed in the next three months.
Pitsiorlas convinced the unionists to cancel their ongoing strikes at least until Friday, telling them that Trenitalia is genuinely interested in developing the Greek railways, which also explains its interest in Rosco. He also clarified a number of issues related to the company’s collective labor contract, which was another reason for the continued strikes.
The unionists a favorable labor contract to be signed as soon as possible, before the Italians take over at Trainose. Sources say that the Trainose administration, with the support of the ministry, promoted changes to the labor contract in cooperation with the unionists, leaving out TAIPED and the Italians from the talks.
“The Trainose management has recently behaved more like union leaders than company managers,” a market insider told Kathimerini.
