Moscovici wants deal with IMFon Greek debt relief by end of year
Greece and its eurozone partners funding its bailout need to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund on further debt relief for the overborrowed country by the end of this year, EU Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said on Monday.
“It is essential to accelerate the return of confidence and to boost recovery which is our common goal,” the EU Economic Affairs Commissioner told reporters after a meeting with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos.
“And secondly to create an environment of constructive dialogue in discussions that we need to open in the autumn on the issue of debt sustainability and the involvement of the International Monetary Fund,” he said.
Moscovici said that it is in the interest of all parties for the IMF to stay fully on board Greece's third bailout program and that there should be no backtracking or complacency on agreed reforms.
