Ministries aiming to collect 5 bln in overdue taxes
The Finance and Labor ministries are planning a series of measures designed to help the government collect some 5 billion euros in overdue taxes and social security contributions by the end of the year, Kathimerini understands.
The move is aimed at ensuring that the government does not encounter any problems in meeting this year’s fiscal targets, which could trigger the contingent mechanism agreed with lenders and lead to further spending cuts having to be adopted next year.
Among the measures being lined up by the ministries are the confiscation of the property and bank accounts owned by 55 percent of the individuals and firms that owe taxes and social security contributions.
The properties will be auctioned.
