Taiwan disappointed at Greece’s rejection of China Air
The Taiwanese diplomatic representation in Greece has expressed disappointment at the news published in Kathimerini’s Tuesday edition that the Greek Civil Aviation Authority has not responded to the China Airlines application for flights between Taipei and Athens this summer.
The Taipei-based airline had planned for 18 direct flights this summer starting on June 3, but it is understood the Foreign Ministry in Athens did not give the green light for a license to China Air on considerations regarding the political relations between Taipei and Beijing.
The Taiwanese representation told Kathimerini on Wednesday it is very sorry that thousands of Taiwanese tourists had to cancel, reschedule their trip or detour to Greece, noting that direct flights are always beneficial for tourism.
“As for the Taiwan-China relations, currently there are more than 100 commercial flights flying across China mainland and Taiwan every day,” the Taipei Representative Office in Greece stressed.
