After rail transport, maritime and land forwarding hurt by protests

With migrants and refugees continuing to obstruct trains in protest at the border closure in Idomeni, northern Greece, strikes by port workers in Thessaloniki for the last 10 days and now in Piraeus have completed the blockade on international cargo services across Greece.

The damage Greece’s credibility as a route could prove irreversible if the foreign companies that have chosen – or are considering selecting – the ports of Piraeus or Thessaloniki for the forwarding of their goods are forced to adopt any alternative solutions.

Certain shipping companies have already rerouted their vessels to ports other than Thessaloniki.
