Bourse records lowest trading volume in last three years

The Athens bourse on Wednesday recorded the lowest trading volume of the last three years during a session that saw the benchmark clearly swinging from negative to positive territory with each order due to the shallow market.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 626.46 points, adding 0.80 percent to Tuesday’s 621.51 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 1.08 percent to end at 183.01 points.

Alpha Bank recovered from its decline of previous days, advancing 11.11 percent. It was followed by Mytilineos, which gained 3.62 percent, Grivalia Properties, which rose 2.86 percent and Coca-Cola HBC, which climbed 2.50 percent. The day’s biggest losers were Eurobank (down 2.70 percent) and Lamda Development (2.27 percent)..

In total 52 stocks registered gains, 32 took losses and 17 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to just 14.5 million euros, against Tuesday’s 26.8 million.
