TANKERS A quieter day than normal with less activity in all areas. Aframaxes in the Med. are trading at around W/S 190, while vessels are still facing huge delays in the Bosphorus due to poor weather conditions and in Trieste due to the lack of capacity. – Cont. around W/S 150-155 for short voyages. PREEM has fixed M/T «Natura» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Nov. 1 Denmark, discharging Sweden, at W/S 155. – Europet, loading Primorsk (Baltic) Oct. 29, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Hanne Knutsen» at W/S 122.5. – Caribs stable, with latest fixtures below W/S 170 for 70,000 tons of cargo, while Suezmaxes out of W. Africa are fixed above W/S 100. – Valero has fixed M/T «Tropic Brilliance» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Nov. 6, discharging US Gulf/Atlantic, at W/S 100/102.5 respectively. – In the Med., Karran, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading end-Oct. Black Sea, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Kalymnos» at W/S 160. – In Caribs, Emerald for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 17 East Coast, Mexico, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «British Hawthorn» at W/S 162.5. – In W. Africa, Hess has fixed M/T «Front Warrior» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Nov. 4, discharging Caribs, at W/S 110. DRY CARGO Another day with high rates agreed to and discussed on Capers. – Market remains strong in the east as well as in the west, with good demand on T/C periods as well. Transfield has fixed M/V «Daghild,» 160,993 dwt, built 1984, delivery April-June 2004 for two years’ trading at USD 31,250 daily. – The Chinese have fixed M/V «Front Viewer,» 169,146 dwt, built 1992, delivery UK, Oct. 25-31 trip, via Brazil, redelivery China at USD 79,000 daily. – On Panamaxes, the index has dropped sharply, reflecting an easing in trading in both oceans. There are some ships in ballast and some willing to consider voyage rates now. – On the latest fixtures, Sanko has fixed M/V «Apostolos,» 70,119 dwt, built 1995, delivery Malaysia, Oct. 25-31, for 4-6 months’ trading at USD 38,000 daily, while NYK has fixed M/V «New Irene,» 72,940 dwt, built 1997, delivery China end-Oct., redelivery Japan at USD 48,000 daily. – On Handies/Handymaxes, charterers are showing strong interest in period charters. – AML has fixed M/V «Ossa,» 27,490 dwt, built 1980, delivery Nigeria for one year of trading at USD 8,250 daily, while M/V «Maritime Trader,» 25,486 dwt, built 1985, delivery end-Nov., East Coast Mexico for 12 months’ trading was fixed at USD 12,750 daily. – On smaller sizes, M/V «Orchid Bay,» 28,418 dwt, built 2003, delivery end-Oct. Spain for 4-6 months was fixed at USD 13,500 daily.
