Piraeus plans are coming in next few weeks
Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis on Friday visited the installations of Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), the local subsidiary of Cosco, with Chinese Ambassador Zou Xiaoli, in another effort by Athens to appease Beijing following Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s visit to the Chinese fleet’s flagship that had arrived in Greece’s main port.
Just like Tsipras, Varoufakis assured the Chinese ambassador and the Cosco officials that the SYRIZA-led government wants cooperation between the two sides to expand, but he avoided defining the model to be chosen for the utilization of the port.
“We wish to proceed rapidly to the creation of the conditions that are necessary for the cooperation between the Greek state and Cosco and in the next few weeks we will have created the appropriate institutional framework to move ahead,” said Varoufakis.
