OTE, PPC and OPAP help index reclaim 1,000-pt mark
Non-banking blue chips propped up the local bourse on Tuesday, sending the benchmark index back above the 1,000-point level. Daily turnover may have dropped in recent sessions but the return of buyers following corporate developments such as S&B Industrial Minerals’ decision to keep its base in Greece serves to boost the local stock market.
The Athens Exchange general index closed at 1,011.85 points, expanding by 1.66 percent from Monday’s 995.30 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index grew by 1.83 percent, ending at 340.77 points.
OTE telecom (up 1.79 percent), OPAP (3 percent) and Public Power Corporation (5.15 percent) secured over 43 percent of the bourse’s turnover on Tuesday, but Intralot outperformed with gains of 7.21 percent.
In total 112 stocks went up, 56 posted losses and 18 stayed put.
Turnover amounted to 56.8 million euros, against Monday’s 57.3 million.
