Mid-caps lead the way in nervous bourse session

The Greek bourse remained without a clear direction on Wednesday as nervous investors are at a loss as to whether they can bank on a Greek recovery or expect a default.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 740.93 points, adding 0.39 percent from Tuesday?s closing figure. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 0.51 percent to close at 288.65 points. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index rose 2.38 percent.

Marfin Investment Group led the blue chips with gains of 8.13 percent, followed by Eurobank EFG (up 4.47 percent) and National Bank (3.73 percent). OTE telecom dropped by 2.94 percent and Hellenic Petroleum slipped 2.64 percent.

In total, 42 stocks moved up, 108 went down and 26 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to no more than 40.3 million euros.
