Index ends session with weekly gains of 4.19 pct

Another day of moderate gains on the Greek bourse on Friday saw the main index end the week on a high as hopes for a way out of the debt crisis increase in Europe.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 775.59 points, rising 0.42 percent from Thursday?s closing figure of 772.36. Its weekly gains amounted to 4.19 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 0.23 percent to 305.62 points.

Hellenic Petroleum was the blue chip with the highest gains (up 5.02 percent), followed by Viohalco (4.86 percent) and Alpha Bank (3.88 percent). Pubic Power Corporation declined by 3.96 percent.

In total, 99 stocks moved up, 61 went down and 30 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 46.6 million euros, down from 63 million on Thursday.
