Big rebound for bank stocks

Greek stocks staged a significant rebound on Wednesday, despite the relatively small turnover recorded, as banks bounced back from an 11-year low to see their sectoral index expand by 12.66 percent.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 759.89 points, growing by 4.75 percent from Tuesday?s closing figure of 725.45. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 6.23 percent to 299.75 points.

Eurobank EFG and Alpha Bank soared, with gains of 21.25 percent and 18.07 percent respectively, while National Bank climbed 15 percent. Ellaktor lost 0.74 percent.

In total, 119 stocks moved up, 52 went down and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 55.5 million euros, against 51.8 million on Tuesday.
