Bourse sinks to 18-year low

The main index of the Greek bourse slid on Monday to its lowest point in the last 18 years as the government conceded it has missed its 2011 fiscal targets, while turnover continues to decline on a daily basis.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 779.29 points, dropping by 2.40 percent from Friday?s closing figure of 798.42. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 3.78 percent to 316.54 points.

Ellaktor outperformed with gains of 4.11 percent, while Marfin Investment Group dropped 12.50 percent.

In total, 36 stocks moved up, 86 went down and 53 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to just 31.4 million euros, down from Friday?s 38.5 million.
