ATHEX: Rebound continues on the bourse
The European Central Bank decision for a rate cut – the third this year – and the statements by its chief, Christine Lagarde, about a possible fourth one in December, and against any chance of a recession, helped European markets advance and the Greek bourse continue on the recovery path for a third session in a row on Thursday. This time it was not only the banks and a few select blue chips, but also stocks outside the large-caps that gave the benchmark a push higher.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,438.67 points, adding 0.60% to Wednesday’s 1,430.09 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.58%, ending at 3,500 points.
The banks index grew 1.08%, as National earned 2.20%, Eurobank collected 1.34% and Alpha climbed 0.34%, though Piraeus gave up 0.68%. ElvalHalcor increased 2.61% and Titan Cement augmented 2.20%.
In total 60 stocks recorded gains, 36 sustained losses and 21 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 111.1 million euros, up from Wednesday’s €94.7 million.
In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange decreased 0.27% to close at 197.15 points.
