Historic Greek winemaker files for bankruptcy

Historic winemaker Tsantalis has filed for bankruptcy, with the hearing at a Thessaloniki court in northern Greece being scheduled for October 11.

The company is also seeking a date for the termination of its payments.

The president of the union representing workers at the company, Sakis Kalligas, stressed that Tsantalis has halted its production since August 2023.

For the first time in the company’s history, which dates back to the late 19th century, it did not harvest any grapes or produce any wine.

The company has been grappling with persistent financial troubles despite concerted efforts to secure its survival and attract investors.
