ATHEX: Stocks post minor gains on quiet day

The growth of most banks weighed decisively on the Greek stock market on Thursday for the final color of the benchmark, which reverted to black upon the closing after a rather narrow session, while turnover continued to decrease. Markets appear satisfied with the decline of the US inflation rate in June, which strengthens the scenario of two rate cuts by the Fed by year-end.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,445.91 points, adding 0.11% to Wednesday’s 1,444.31 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded just 0.01%, ending at 3,513.90 points.

The banks index grew 0.63%, on National rising 1.58%, Piraeus grabbing 0.55% and Eurobank earning 0.29%, while Alpha stayed put.

Lamda Development climbed 4.58%, OPAP fetched 2.43% and Titan Cement improved 2.33%, whereas Jumbo conceded 4.19% and Coca-Cola HBC gave up 3.14%.

In total 55 stocks notched up gains, 42 sustained losses and 24 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 85.1 million euros, down from Wednesday’s €88.4 million.

In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange increased 0.14% to close at 162.27 points.
