Decarb and green transition for islands

The Decarbonization Fund is a tremendous tool that will allow Greek islands to become models of green transition, Environment & Energy Minister Thodoros Skylakakis said in an online address for the “Nisyros Dialogues: Bridging the East Med,” held for the third consecutive year at the eponymous island by the Georgios M. Michalos Foundation that opened last Friday.

Addressing the conference opening through a videotaped message, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed the hope that at the meetings, held at the juncture of three continents, would include discussion on innovative ideas and applicable solutions, as Nisyros’ inclusion in the initiative GR-eco Islands will signal.

Combining the special features of islands with actions promoting development in agreement with the natural environment “is a sample of our political choice,” the PM said.

Skylakakis spoke on a panel related to geopolitical developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and energy security and said that the fund would allow a faster green transition on the islands combined with a response to climate crises issues, such as water shortages.
