Social housing plans proceed

The first international tender for the utilization of unused state properties is expected to be launched within the year, with the aim of having residences built by 2025, some of which will be allocated with socioeconomic criteria and a low price to people aged up to 39.

Depending on the contract, the apartments will be available either at a “social” rent – significantly lower than the market rates – or for purchase, or even for acquisition through the “rent-to-own” model.

About 1,600 properties have already come under the focus of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family and are being examined for their possible utilization. The Public Employment Service (DYPA) alone has inherited from the former Organization for Workers’ Housing a total of 11 plots within town planning in areas such as Kifissia, Paiania and Maroussi in Attica, as well as in various other regions, such as Larissa, Agrinio, Patra, Serres, Halkidiki and Xanthi.

The joint ministerial decision is expected with a significant delay within the next period to implement the 2022 law regarding the “social compensation” for the utilization of state property and the provision of low-rent housing.
