ATHEX: Rebound at Athinon Ave, on low trade

The Greek bourse recovered on Monday from its week of losses to show some healthy gains for the majority of stocks and the benchmark at Athinon Avenue on a day with significantly reduced turnover, the lowest in a week. The question now is whether this rebound can be sustained, as the summer with the biggest corporate dividends in a decade has started.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,447.41 points, adding 1.09% to Friday’s 1,431.84 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 1.26%, ending at 3,497.31 points.

The banks index jumped 1.84%, as Piraeus grabbed 2.49%, Alpha earned 1.87%, Eurobank fetched 1.74% and National collected 1.50%. Helleniq Energy advanced 2.15%, Titan Cement climbed 1.65%, OPAP gained 1.57%, Quest Holdings improved 1.50%, and Motor Oil rose 1.46%, while Ellaktor gave up 0.99%.

In total 56 stocks boasted gains, 36 posted losses and 27 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 88.4 million euros, down from last Friday’s €383 million.

In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange increased 0.21% to close at 163.70 points.
