New entries in local aviation

The Greek aviation ecosystem is constantly being strengthened with new players. The new arrivals include not only foreign air carriers that are starting to connect Greece with the rest of the world, but also companies seeking to operate in freight transport or in aircraft maintenance. In these fields, mobility has recently come from foreign businesspeople and groups that proceed to establish companies in Greece. The list of such startups includes Helicare, which is engaged in the provision of maintenance services and is allegedly associated with a multinational group that distributes and markets aircraft consumables and spare parts.

Also Sergius Air, which is active in the provision of air transport, headed by Serge Sergeef of Russian origin, who founded the company AYR Logistics Limited with activity in more than 45 countries. The latter offers integrated services of storage, distribution and transportation of products (logistics) and has had a series of collaborations with government organizations, providing logistics services also in the context of humanitarian missions. It remains to be seen whether Sergeef seeks to enter the Greek logistics market, which presents strong growth prospects, through Sergius Air.

Another aviation company that has established itself in Greece is Aerospace Technical Services. It is 100% controlled by ATS Group based in King Hussein Business Park, Jordan, operates in the United States and United Arab Emirates and has a track record of over 20 years. Its core activities will include the sale, lease and supply of aircraft equipment, cargo management, as well as the provision of light aircraft maintenance services, i.e. routine tasks (e.g. checking fluid levels, brakes, navigation systems etc.). In addition to the activities related to aviation and correspondingly to its parent company, ATS Greece will also be active in the field of medical equipment supply, seeking to develop a diversified business.

Besides the logistics sector, aircraft maintenance, which forms the backbone of aviation, is attracting business interest. The location of the country combined with the strengthening of the attractiveness of the economy and the problems of the international supply chain have put Greece on the radar of foreign multinationals seeking to offer services in this sector.
