ATHEX: Fifth week of gains for benchmark

The main index of the Greek bourse advanced for the fifth week in a row, despite the moderate losses suffered on Friday in what was a rather quiet session. Observers note that traders may be waiting for corporate moves and the placement of the state’s 27% stake in Piraeus Bank, so they are saving their strength for now.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,413.26 points, shedding 0.42% from Thursday’s 1,419.25 points. On a weekly basis it expanded 0.56%.

The large-cap FTSE-25 index also contracted 0.42%, ending at 3,432.59 points, and the banks index gave up 0.51%.

ElvalHalcor sank2.05%, Sarantis parted with 1.75%, Alpha Bank dropped 1.53%, Piraeus Bank conceded 1.26%, GEK Terna shied 1.24%, EYDAP was down 1.22% and Public Power Corporation fell 1.17%, while Ellaktor earned 0.93% and Aegean Airlines improved 0.80%.

In total 45 stocks ensured gains, 59 sustained losses and 19 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 109.5 million euros, up from Thursday’s €106.5 million.

In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange decreased 0.52% to close at 141.61 points.
