Thessaloniki to suffer most from stemming of Israeli tourism flows
Thessaloniki stands to suffer most from the halt in Israeli tourism flows due to the war in the Middle East, as Greece’s second largest city accounts for most of the tourist arrivals from Israel that generally account for almost 2% of visitors to Greece.
In Thessaloniki, Israeli arrivals account for up to 11% of visitors. Kos, Rhodes and Crete will also be affected.
According to the Institute of the Confederation of Greek Tourism, in 2019-2022 incoming tourism from Israel grew 43.5% to 490,000 arrivals last year.
The number of overnight stays in Greece by Israelis soared 58.7% to 2.7 million and travel receipts grew 51.1% to 311 million euros.
