ATHEX: Further rise for bourse benchmark
The Greek bourse benchmark is going from strength to strength, as after Monday’s huge rise to a level unseen since the summer of 2014, on Tuesday it rose yet again for a new nine-year high that consolidated the post-election gains of the market. Still, it closed some distance from the day’s high, while the slide of the banks index points to some contraction to come in the rest of the week.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,205.30 points, adding 0.33% to Monday’s 1,201.32 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.02% to end at 2,959.98 points.
The banks index contracted 0.37%, as National dropped 3.43% and Eurobank eased 0.89%, while Piraeus grabbed 4.09% and Alpha gained 1.09%. GEK Terna soared 4.84% and Aegean Air jumped 3.66%, though Jumbo lost 2.17% and Ellaktor parted with 2.11%.
In total 53 stocks notched up gains, 49 took losses and 20 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 221.4 million euros, down from Monday’s €361.8 million.
In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange decreased 0.20% to close at 108.85 points.
