ATHEX: All Tuesday’s stock losses recouped on Wednesday
The ATHEX benchmark returned on Wednesday to its closing level on Monday, as it managed to offset not only the early losses on the day but also those recorded on Tuesday, albeit on smaller trading volume. This was largely due to the market’s anticipation of the verdicts and comments by the US Fed on Wednesday and the Bank of England on Thursday.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 874.04 points, adding 0.67% to Tuesday’s 868.25 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.75%, to end up at 2,122.18 points.
The banks index advanced 0.78%, as Alpha grabbed 2.11%, National rose 1.43% and Piraeus collected 0.89%, though Eurobank eased 0.79%.
Among the other blue chips, Coca-Cola HBC outperformed (up 2.01%), ahead of Mytilineos (1.99%) and OPAP (1.45%). Lamda Development fell 1.85% and EYDAP declined 1.79%.
In total 46 stocks registered gains, 40 reported losses and 26 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 43.5 million euros, down from Tuesday’s €52.1 million.
In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange increased 0.27% to 77.04 points.
