I Solisti Veneti | Athens | December 10
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) will be hosting a tribute to conductor Claudio Scimone on Monday, December 10, featuring contralto Marita Paparizou and I Solisti Veneti, the acclaimed Italian chamber music ensemble founded by Scimone in 1959. A student of the celebrated Greek conductor Dimitris Mitropoulos, Scimone conducted the ensemble until his death in September, helping it earn critical acclaim for its performances and recordings of Italian baroque works by composers including Vivaldi, Albinoni, Geminiani, Marcello and Tartini. The show at the SNFCC's Stavros Niarchos Hall starts at 8.30 p.m. and admission is free of charge, though pre-registration is recommended at www.snfcc.org.
