Doc Fest | Thessaloniki | March 2-11
The Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (TDF) celebrates its 20th birthday with its trademark agglomeration of hard-hitting films on social justice, politics, culture and the environment, along with a plethora of special sections and parallel events. Organizers this year have prepared a tribute to the six-decade-long career of iconic auteur Agnes Varda, and given carte blanche to American independent filmmaker Sara Driver. The festival also hosts a special section on films capturing more and less known aspects of the year 1968. The festival gets under way on Friday, March 2 with a screening of Vardas’s Oscar-nominated “Faces People,” a poignant portrait of the everyman in contemporary rural France, which she made with pseudonymous French artist JR. The festival runs through March 11.
