The Association of Friends of the Tatoi Estate is organizing its fifth Opera Gala to raise funds for the conservation of the former royal estate in northern Athens on December 18, starting at 8 p.m. at the Parnassos Literary Society. The concert will feature Vassiliki Karayanni (soprano), Nikos Spanatis (countertenor) and Charis Andrianos (baritone), accompanied by pianist Dimitris Giakas. They will be joined by the Tallinn-based Ensemble Floridante (Meelis Orgse on baroque violin, Lisa Kawasaki on flute, Tonu Joesaar on cello and Saale Fischer on harpsichord). The two-act program includes works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Handel, Verdi and Rossini, among others. This year's performance is dedicated to Maria Callas, who passed away 40 years ago, and will include an exhibition of personal items belonging to the celebrated soprano.
