Prince Ivan and the Firebird | Athens | To January 3
Thodoris Abazis has composed a new piece for the Greek National Opera’s program for children that is based on the Russian fairy tale that inspired Igor Stravinsky’s ballet “The Firebird.” Aimed at 5- to 12-year-olds, “Prince Ivan and the Firebird” (in Greek) tells the story of a young prince trying to prove his worth to his father the tsar, while also learning a few valuable life lessons along the way. Performances of the opera take place on December 23, 24, 30 and 31, and January 2 and 3. Tickets cost 12 and 15 euros and can be booked via the GNO’s website (www.nationalopera.gr).
