Enter Afrofuturism | Athens | To November 12
The Onassis Cultural Center is hosting “Enter Afrofuturism,” a festival dedicated to the movement that emerged in the African American community in the 1990s with the aim of reclaiming its cultural and political identity through concerts, talks, workshops and film screenings. On Thursday, November 9, there will be a concert by the Sun Ra Arkestra, a band that has propagated the ideas and philosophy of its late creator, a key proponent of the political and cultural awakening of the 1960s. Cultural studies professor Erik Steinskog from the University of Copenhagen will give an introductory talk at 8.30 p.m. before the concert starts at 9.15 p.m. Tickets for this event range from 7 to 25 euros. For more details on the remainder of the festival program, visit the center's website.
