Serge Aime Coulibaly | Athens | October 25-27
Choreographer Serge Aime Coulibaly from Burkina Faso has drawn inspiration from the life and music of the late Nigerian Afrobeat musician and political activist Fela Kuti in a production being presented at the Onassis Cultural Center. Titled “Kalakuta Republik,” the work focuses on Kuti's imprisonment in the 1980s and the music that emerged from this experience. Coulibaly gained critical acclaim as a dancer in Alain Platel’s “Wolf” and “C(h)oeurs” with Les Ballets C de la B, during which time he also founded his own company, Faso Danse Theatre, in 2002. Performances take place Wednesday to Friday, October 25 to 27, starting at 9 p.m. The choreographer will talk to the audience after Thursday's performance.
