Maria Farantouri will perform at the open-air Herod Atticus Theater on Thursday, June 22. In this first part of the program, the acclaimed Greek vocalist will be joined by soloists Anja Lechner (violoncello), Meri Vardanyan (qanon), Christos Barbas (ney) and Izzet Kizil (percussion) in works written for her voice by Turkish composer Cihan Turkoglu with lyrics by Agathi Dimitrouka. Turkoglu himself will also perform on vocals, saz and kopuz. In the second part, Farantouri will share the stage with Catalan singer Maria del Mar Bonet, performing Catalan songs, as well as works by Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hatzidakis. The concert will be recorded live by German label ECM and will be conducted by its founder Manfred Eicher. Ticket prices range from 15 to 50 euros. For more details, go to www.greekfestival.gr.
