Seafaring & Shipbuilding | Athens | To August 27

Under the auspices of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, an exhibition at the Herakleidon Museum sheds light on the history of seafaring and shipbuilding in Greece from antiquity to modern times. Explore the history of maritime voyages, achievements in naval architecture, the exchange of ideas and technological developments over several thousand years. The exhibition includes 40 handmade wooden models of the types of Greek ships that plied the waves as far back as prehistoric times and as recently as the mid-20th century. The history of Greek seafaring and shipbuilding is presented in a coherent and comprehensive manner, taking visitors on a journey back in time to discover the close, timeless relationship the Greek people have with the sea. General admission costs 6 euros (4 euros reduced for students, teachers, over-65s and the unemployed). Opening hours are Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. all other days.
