South Africa’s Third World Bunfight theater company presents Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Macbeth” at the Athens Concert Hall on Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23. Director Brett Bailey has set the opera in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s eastern provinces in the midst of civil war. Belgian composer Fabrizio Cassol has rewritten Verdi’s original score, adapting the opera for 12 musicians and 10 singers. Joining them on stage is the Balkan No Borders Orchestra led by Serbian conductor Premil Petrovic. Performances start at 9 p.m. and admission ranges from 10 to 35 euros; 10 euros for students.
