Ancient art from Crete collection at the Athinais

On April 6, President Karolos Papoulias opened an important exhibition of works from the Nikolaos Metaxas collection at the Iraklion Archaeological Museum, brought to Athens to go on show at the Athinais Cultural Center until December 31. The treasures of ancient Crete were admired by a large crowd at the opening, including the New Democracy party’s honorary president, Constantine Mitsotakis, government ministers Evangelos Meimarakis, Giorgos Souflias and Petros Doukas, members of Parliament and former ministers Nikitas Kaklamanis, Vasso Papandreou, Nikos Christodoulakis, Petros Efthymiou, and Iraklion’s prefect, Dimitris Sarris, Culture Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis (the exhibition is under the auspices of the Culture Ministry) and two of the collector’s children, Andreas and Rosy Metaxa.
