Opening hours changing for ancient sites and museums
Better late than never – the Ministry of Culture has finally realized the importance of keeping Greece’s archaeological sites and museums open for longer hours. As of yesterday, three different «time zones» have gone into operation, based on expectations of an increased tourist flow expected during the Catholic and Greek Orthodox Easter and summer. Zone A includes sites such as the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Stoa of Attalos, Theater of Dionysos and Roman Forum in Athens, and Sounion, Eleusis, Aegina Aphaia, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Lindos, Knossos, Phaestos, Mystras, Pella and Delphi, among others. Opening hours for Zone A monuments and museums are now from 8 a.m. to 7.30 p.m., until October 31. Zone B covers places such as the archaeological museums of Rhodes, Zakynthos, Paros, Naxos and Santorini, the Koule-Iraklion Fort, the Dodoni archaeological site and Nikopolis. Beginning on June 1 (and ending on October 31), the above sites will be open to the public until 5 p.m. Finally, Zone C refers to the winter season opening hours, applicable to all sites and which have been set from 8.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
