Jean-Louis Trintignan set to perform for Patras 2006

Jean-Luis Trintignan is among the select few who really know what a theater monologue entails. The celebrated French actor is coming to Greece for a single performance, on April 15. This rare appearance is part of the Patras 2006 European Cultural Capital’s events in the poetry and music department. Apollinaire Trintignan will highlight his debut appearance in this country with «Poems for Lou,» by the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire, in a production that was part of opening events of the Avignon Festival last year. Trintignan will not be alone on stage. He will be accompanied by two classical and jazz music soloists: Daniel Mille on accordion and Gregoire Kornulik on the cello. «Poems for Lou» holds a very special place in Trintignan’s heart. The works became the basis for Trintignan’s onstage collaboration with his daughter Marie – a first. The collaboration was held at the Parisian Theatre de l’Atelier. (Marie Trintignan subsequently died under tragic circumstances in 2003.) Written during World War I, Apollinaire’s poetry collection was composed as a series of letters to Louise de Coligny-Chatillon, a woman with whom the poet shared a passionate affair in 1914. Though the relationship lasted only six months, it turned out to be a huge source of inspiration for the Frenchman. Trintignan will interpret «Poems for Lou» at the Art Factory (Ladopoulos premises) on Saturday, April 15 at 9.30 p.m. When not appearing on stage or participating in films, Trintignan likes to retreat to his vineyards in the south of France. «Thankfully I enjoy theater so much,» he says. «Otherwise, I would feel like an idiot given that I work so hard.» www.patras2006.gr
