Greek director Lanthimos added to Oscars voting class
Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ class of 2016.
“The Lobster” director is among the 683 invitees announced by Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs on Wednesday.
In the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy which sparked a debate about a lack of diversity within the ranks of the Academy, Isaacs said she was committed to doubling the number of female and minority members who can vote for the Oscars.
The 2016 class, a record in size, is 46 percent female and 41 percent people of color.
