Durrell Library of Corfu launches new website
The Durrell Library of Corfu, dedicated to showcasing, propagating and researching the work and lives of celebrated British writers Lawrence and Gerald Durrell – who lived on the Greek island with their family in 1935-39 – has inaugurated its new website.
The website, www.durrelllibrarycorfu.org, allows users to post notes, queries and comments, and to browse through essays and abstracts of theses on the writers and also a 124-page bibliography of some 3,000 works by and about Lawrence Durrell – with a section on Gerald Durrell currently under preparation.
It also features a special page dedicated to Corfu and the other Ionian islands that focuses on aspects relevant to the Durrell family.
The “Adaptations” section carries details of screen-adapted versions of works by Gerald and Lawrence Durrell. British TV series “The Durrells,” based on Gerald's three autobiographical books about his family's four years on the island, has spurred a revival of interest in the sibling writers, and consequently the site too. A second series is planned and is to be accompanied by a tie-in book “The Durrells of Corfu” by Michael Haag.
In “Publications for sale,” the library presents several books published by the Durrell School of Corfu.
There is also the ongoing archive project, which aims to document the history of the Durrell School of Corfu from 2001 to 2014.
Photos, videos and audio clips will be added at a later stage.
