Hellenic Observatory notes LSE honor to Costas Simitis
The Hellenic Observatory, the London School of Economics and Political Science’s (LSE) Research hub on contemporary Greece and Cyprus, noted on Saturday the honor bestowed on former Socialist prime minister Costas Simitis by the British university at a ceremony on Friday.
“Yesterday LSE honoured one of its most distinguished Greek alumni, former Greek PM Costas Simitis. In a special celebration in Athens,Professor Simitis was awarded an LSE Honorary Fellowship, a prestigious award that was conferred by the Director of the HO Professor Kevin Featherstone,” the Hellenic Observatory said in a tweet.
Costas Simitis, who headed Greece’s 1996-2004 government, received an honorary fellowship “for his exemplary contributions to society.”
Simitis, an LSE alum, is being distinguished for the “seriousness, reformism and personal integrity” of his leadership,” the respected university said in a statement.
