Hospital in northern Greece closes ER due to lack of doctors
A hospital in Ptolemaida, northern Greece, is shutting down its accident and emergency unit because of a lack of doctors.
The acting director of Bodosakeio Hospital, Christos Katsinas, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Thursday that the department would cease to operate as of that day as the doctors who were carrying out their residencies there have left and nobody else has expressed an interest in the positions.
Katsinas said he has told the Health Ministry about the problem. The ministry recently issued a circular calling on general practitioners at health centers to help staff hospital accident and emergency departments.
