New group claims responsibility for attack on PASOK HQ in May

A new organization, calling itself “Organization for Revolutionary Self Defense,” has claimed responsibility for an armed assault against the headquarters of PASOK in central Athens, on the eve of European Parliament elections on May 25.

In a proclamation posted on the Indymedia website, the group justified the attack saying that the once-dominant socialist party had “played a historical role in the service of the capital.”

The ruling class supported PASOK’s rise to power in a bid to undermine class struggle, said the group alleging that the junior coalition partner now “belongs to the hard core of totalitarianism.”

In the same statement, the group pledged solidarity with Greek prisoners protesting government plans for maximum security jails and warned that attacks will continue.

Two windows on the second and third floor of the building on Harilaou Trikoupi Street were in the early hours of May 25 hit by bullets from a Kalashnikov automatic rifle which, forensic tests on the casings later revealed, had not been used in a previous terrorist attack. No one was injured in the attack.
