Athens Bar Association blames slow justices for delays in legal system

Greece's most prominent association of lawyers hit out at the judiciary yesterday, blaming some judges for being far too slow to issue decisions on court cases and thereby delaying the whole legal process.

Alarm bell sounded for justice
While one may disagree with the Athens Bar Association for threatening that its members will not attend trials presided over by «indolent and inadequate» judges, the truth is that this radical and legally controversial protest has thrown the spotlight on longstanding weakness in the assessment of judges. Unfortunately, judges are not adequately judged by the institutions...

An unbearable city
Last Saturday, my 12-year-old son and I received a couple of lessons on city life on our way to the recycling point on Alexandras Avenue. The blue recycling bin was overflowing with waste of every kind. When my son asked why, all I could say was, «Some people will just throw their garbage wherever.» «Why don't they use the green bins, which are empty?» he asked.
