Man killed in 100-euro heist

The father of three children, was shot and killed early yesterday while working at a kiosk in the coastal area of Palaio Faliron, southern Athens, in what police suspect was a robbery involving 100 euros.

The 45-year-old man, identified as Albanian national Eleftherios Trallos, was shot as he worked the night shift on Wednesday on busy Poseidonos Avenue. The owner of the kiosk found the body in the locked kiosk at around 5.10 a.m. Police said the victim had suffered a single bullet wound to the face. Kiosk operators are among the most exposed groups to robberies as they work long hours well into the night, according to authorities.

The kiosk owner told police that all the cash had been taken, which would have been around 100 euros. “Each year these sorts of incidents increase,” said the president of Athens kiosk owners Nikos Palaioyiannis. “Holdups involving kiosks have almost become a daily event.”
