Crime squad to check House PCs

The electronic crimes squad is expected to collect information from the computers in Parliament today believed to have been used to post items on the press-gr news blog.

Authorities are trying to track down those who have contributed to the website and also find its organizers, who allegedly attempted to blackmail victims for up to 20,000 euros in exchange for a promise not to publish articles on them.

Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis, Merchant Marine Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis and government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos are among the 100 plaintiffs that have filed a lawsuit against the blog spot.

The investigating magistrate called on parliamentary officials yesterday to provide information on users of its network. He is expected to soon identify its main suspects, sources said.

The self-styled citizens’ news site hosts a regular mix of comments on politics and society by users who are frequently anonymous and often use abusive language.
